Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua Galerita)
Kakatua Jambul Kuning

Description

The Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is a large white cockatoo with a bright
yellow crest. Cockatoos can be kept as pets in large aviaries.

Environment

Woodlands, forests.

Food

Fruits, nuts, seeds, flowers, berries, plant shoots, roots & grubs.

Breeding

Deep hollow nests, high above the ground with 2-3 eggs laid at any one time.

Range

Endemic in Eastern Moluccas Islands, Indonesia, Northern Australia.

 

 

Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys temminckii)

Description

Alligator snapping turtles are the largest freshwater turtles. They spend
most of their time in the water. The alligator snapping turtle looks very
primitive and has been called dinosaurs of the turtle world. It most actively
forages for food during the night.

Environment

Generally live in rivers, canals, lakes and swamps.

Food

Fish, frogs, snakes, clams.

Breeding

All nests are dug in the sand. A clutch may contain 8 to 52 eggs and incubation takes 3.5 to 4.5 months.

Southeast region of United States, Mexico

 

 

Owl (Otus sp)
Burung Hantu

Description

Owls are an order of birds of prey. Most are solitary and nocturnal. There
are over 200 extant species of owls. Owls are far sighted and
unable to clearly see anything few inches of their eyes.
They are far-visioned, particularly in low light.

Environment

Woodlands, forests.

Food

Owls mostly hunt small mammals, insects & other birds.

Breeding

Owl eggs are usually white & almost spherical and range in number from few to dozen. Owls do not construct nests but rather look for shelter nesting sites in trees, underground burrows and caves.

Range

Owls are found in all regions of the earth except Antarctica, most of Greenland.

 

 

Soft-shelled Turtle (Apolone spinifera)

Description

The turtles are covered by a leathery skin, not scutes. The feet are highly webbed with three crawled. The neck is quite long and the long nose
is excellent for snorkeling and sniffing amongst crevices for food.

Streams, rivers, lakes ponds and sloughs.

Food

Fish, snails, insects, amphibians and carrion.

Breeding

They lay from 4 to 33 hard spherical eggs about 1? – 1.2? in diameter.

Range

Asia, Africa, North America.


 

Himalayan Griffon Vulture (Gyps himalayensis)

Description

The Himalayan Griffon Vulture is a typical vulture with a bald white head,
very broad wings and a short tail. They are the second largest
Old World Vulture.

Environment

High mountain.

Food

Carrion either fresh or putrid.

Breeding

Laying single egg.

Range

Himalayas and Tibet.
