Bintan is pleasantly warm and sunny all year round. Day temperatures range between 21 – 32 degrees centigrade, and hover at 26 degrees on average. The humidity levels vary from 61 – 96%. From October to March, the weather turns refreshing cool. Commonly known as the monsoon season, days like these see more rainfall and stronger winds. In the tropics, light clothing is advised… Don’t forget your swimwear and sunblock/suntan lotions!

GMT +7. Just set your watch to one hour behind Singapore time.


Bahasa Indonesia is the national language of Indonesia, however Nirwana Gardens welcomes international visitors from all over the world. We have Guest Relations Officers who are able to communicate in English and Mandarin at your service.


The national currency is Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) and all monetary transactions within Nirwana Gardens will be made in IDR, as per Indonesian government regulations. For the convenience of our guests, currency exchange service is available at our Nirwana Resort Hotel Lobby, operating hours between 0800 – 2000hrs everyday. You can also find money changer service at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore and Bandar Bentan Telani (BBT) Ferry Terminal in Bintan. We also accept credit card payments, so don’t forget your trusty VISA, MasterCard or American Express. Please be advised that credit card payments are made in Indonesian currency as per Indonesian banking regulations however the amount stated on your credit card bill will be in your home currency at the exchange rate of your credit card’s issuing bank.

Medical Care

Medical needs for our guests are catered for by a clinic with a doctor on call 24 hours, and supported by a highly efficient emergency evacuation system.

Getting to Bintan

  • From Singapore:
    Accessible via high-speed catamarans from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (TMFT). The journey takes 55 minutes. Check-in time: 1 hour before departure. Each passenger has up to 20 kg baggage allowance. Tickets are available at Bintan Resort Ferries counter at TMFT and through selected travel agents in Singapore.   • Shuttle Services from Changi Airport to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (TMFT) click here.
  • From Batam:
    Regular speedboat services to Bintan are available from Telaga Punggur Port in Batam to Tanjung Uban Port in Bintan. Taxis or car hire companies are available to take you from Tanjung Uban to Nirwana Gardens. The land journey takes approximately 45 minutes.
  • From Jakarta:
    Take a domestic flight to Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport in Tanjung Pinang. Taxis or car hire companies are available to take you from Tanjung Pinang to Nirwana Gardens. The land journey takes approximately one hour.

Getting Around Bintan Island

Two-way transfers between Nirwana Gardens and Bandar Bentan Telani (BBT) Ferry Terminal will be provided complimentary by the Resort. Please approach our friendly Nirwana Gardens staff upon arrival at the ferry terminal who will be most delighted to show you to the coach.

Car hire companies located at the ferry terminal are also available to provide transfers to other parts of Bintan Island such as Tanjung Uban, Lobam, Trikora and Tanjung Pinang.

Getting Around the Resort

Duty-free concessions for visitors entering Indonesia include a maximum of one litre of spirits, one litre of wine, one litre of beer, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100gm tobacco and a reasonable amount of perfume. Photographic equipment, typewriters, recorders and computers must be declared at customs upon entry. Television and radio sets, drugs, arms and ammunition, printed matter in Chinese characters, Chinese medicines, transceivers (without advance approval), all uncensored movie films and video cassettes, fresh fruits, plants and animals without quarantine permits are prohibited.

Travel Visa Information

International passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival into Indonesia. Proof of onward passage and sufficient funds may be requested.

For guests requiring Visa On Arrival (VOA), the charges are US$15 per person up to a period seven days and US$35 per person for stays more than seven days, up to a maximum period of 30 Days. The visa is not extendable and cannot be used for employment purposes. When applying for the VOA, guests are required to have these documents ready:

  • Passport with a minimum of 6 months’ validity
  • Arrival/Departure Card
  • Return or onward journey ticket

Visitors are advised to bring with them the exact amount in US Dollars for payment of VOA fees before boarding the ferry in Singapore; this will minimize inconvenience and ensure a smooth VOA application process.
